[PATCH] Use daemon(3) instead of forking manually

Hello, the attached patch uses daemon(3) instead of forking manually. This executes setsid(2) (which is missing currently) and gives better FDs 0-2 (it is a little bit unclean to use these standard fds for other things). daemon(3) is called with a set 'nochdir' flag to allow core-file generation in writable directories. Hardware (partially) broken? Anyone experiences?

Hi @ll, I've got a Hauppauge FF card in my vdr. But for 6 weeks there have been stripes all over the screen and the colors are much too strong and unnatural. IÄm quite sure that the Hauppauge card is the problem. Recording works fine, because watching on the PC over ethernet is perfect. But the output which comes from the card directly to the TV is bad. I changed all cable and tried another TV - always the same problem. Drivers weren't chagend since it worked. Got anyone such a problem? I think I have to buy a new FF card - but perhaps someone has got a hint if i forgot something to check. Greetings Christian

vdr+xine -> freeze Console

Im using vdr(1.3.34) + xine-plugin (0.7.6) under debian 3.1 (sarge) After a while all my Console's (bash) begin to freeze. I have opened a Console with 6 Tabs. If I start ./runvdr -P'xine -r als other tabs will freeze after a while. Same if I dont run xine(ui). Maybe this is a debian problem. Has anybody the same feature? DS

Problems with the xine plugin (ver 0.7.6)

Hi, I recently decided to upgrade from vdr 1.3.13 + an older xine plugin to 1.3.34 and xine plugin 0.7.6. I'm using xine-lib 1.1.0 with the xine plugin. Now I've compiled both the same xine-lib and vdr once for x86 and once for x86_64 (so I'm really using the same source) but only the version for x86_64 works. If I strace the xine process running on my x86 machine I can see that it closes /tmp/vdr-xine/stream right after a few reads. This does not happen on the x86_64 one. Would someone have any ideas as to why this might be happening? All pipes in /tmp/vdr-xine are present and have sane permissions. I'm using the same glibc versions and am using non nptl ones in both cases. VDR is not patched in any way and I'm not using any CC flags besides the default ones. runvdr - better control ?

Hello Sometimes a recording is not done although vdr is running. Since vdr was running - according to ps runvdr did not restart vdr. I dont't know what's the reason, might be, my vdr sometimes get tired :-) In /var/log/messages I find no explanation. But I think I've got a reasonable and simple solution: When vdr behaves like this (halfdead) I can't connect to the svdrhost. My proposal thus for testing if vdr is really alive: a=`svdrpsend.pl -p 2001 "quit" | grep SVDRP` if [ -z $a ] then RESTART fi regards Wolfgang

Where is streamdev

Hi everyone, I'd like to give a test to streamdev, I found it on http://www.magoa.net/linux/index.php?view=streamdev-unstable, unfortunately, it doesnt compile with my fc 4, vdr 1.3.34. I saw in the mailing list there is a streamdev-cvs available somewhere, any idea where I could download it ? Thanks and regards, Eric.

VDR Softdevice XV and TV-out

I'm using VDR 1.3.34 with a VP1020 budget card on a machine with and Nvidia GF 5500 video card. I am using softdevice for a decoder. I currently have X configured for dual display with the VGA being screen 1 and the TV out being screen 2 using Nvidia's twinview. VDR and Softdevice are working well. My problem is in trying to view the display full screen on the TV-out. If I full screen the display it always goes to screen 1 which is VGA. The only way to view it on the TV-out is in a maximized window. I can't start it that way and I have to drag the window and maximize every time I start VDR. Does anyone know of a way around this? Inconsistent Messages

Hi, the fuse in my multiswitch blew yesterday, consequently VDR couldn't work properly. Looking at the messages, we see that it couldn't record: Oct 16 19:16:41 localhost vdr[2585]: ERROR: device 2 has no lock, can't attach receiver! Oct 16 19:16:41 localhost vdr[2585]: buffer stats: 0 (0%) used Oct 16 19:16:42 localhost vdr[2585]: timer 4 (1 1900-2015 'Ronnie Barker A Life in Comedy') stop Oct 16 19:16:42 localhost vdr[2585]: switching device 2 to channel 1 So the message tells me the device couldn't get a lock. Now if I try live tv: Oct 16 19:19:46 localhost vdr[2899]: switching to channel 1 Oct 16 19:19:57 localhost vdr[2899]: switching to channel 7 Oct 16 19:20:05 localhost vdr[2899]: switching to channel 8 Oct 16 19:20:10 localhost vdr[2899]: switching to channel 9 Oct 16 19:20:12 localhost vdr[2899]: switching to channel 10 This didn't work either, just wondering why the same message is not issued?
