New install

I just installed VDR fresh on a debian machine (also fresh install). I followed hooch's step by step procedure, including downloading and installing the script that switches the install to support NTSC. But when I run VDR, I get a scrolling black screen with the date/time on the right, and the test VDR startup sequence for a brief moment in the middle. I am assuming that it is still in PAL. Hardware is a Hauppauge Nexus-S Rev 2.3 Regards, Ken

VDR 1.3.32 crashes if recording date is in the future

Hi Klaus, I tried 1.3.32 (plain, only remote-Plugin) and it always crashed with a "Speicherzugriffsfehler". I tried to debug it (i'm no programmer at all) and it fails at [Switching to Thread -1208472992 (LWP 18423)] 0x080cb1d6 in cRecording (this=0x840f170, FileName=0x840f114 "Chaos_City/1x01_-_001_-_New_York_New_York_(Pilot)/2007-01-01.00.12.10.99.re c") at recording.c:506 506 data[1] = (char *)realloc(data[1], len + 1 + strlen(data[2]) + 1); I use future dates to reorder my recordings -> this doesn't happen with vdr-1.3.28. vdr-1.3.32 segfault when reading summary.vdr

Hi list, I have a summary.vdr file from the old days which crashes vdr 1.3.32 when trying to read it. No. As I said they worked in as much as when I watched that channel everything was Ok, but once I changed back to another channel without AFDs I would end up with eg. a 16:9 programme displayed as a 4:3 on my 4:3 display. Passing events to plugins or external programs

I have equipped my vdr system with a solid-state relay that can power on and off the monitor and speakers. The relay should be connected to the value of Setup.Suspend (see my patch from yesterday). I am not too familiar with the plugin interface of vdr, but I got the impression that the only way to implement such a relay control in a plugin would be by polling, which is inefficient. Are there any plans to allow plugins to register for updates of cSetup variables? (Or any plans for a svdrp interface to setting and querying the variables, for that matter?) Such an event interface could also be to a popen'ed child process. Whenever something of interest happens, vdr would write a line to the pipe. At the very least, changes to setup variables (both vdr and plugins) would be logged. The child process would look for interesting lines, such as "Setup.Suspend=0" or "Setup.Suspend=1" in the case of relay control. Other events that could be logged would be changes in aspect ratio and play mode. Making the event interface to a child process would avoid licensing problems. Before I decided to build a solid-state relay box myself, I searched for existing solutions. I found a manufacturer of USB-controlled power outlets that appeared to supply Linux drivers. Unfortunately, the driver turned out to be a closed-source library, which couldn't be used in a vdr plugin without breaking the GPL. Marko

VDR support for V4 API

Has anyone attempted to update the patch to VDR for the dvb-kernel V4 API? I noticed there is a patch already there for vdr-1.3.9 (vdr-1.3.9-v4.patch). I was just wondering if anyone has tried this lately. It seems the V4 API is better suited for full featured dvb cards and the V3 API for "budget" cards. It would be nice to get started testing with it. Best Regards.
