Hello everyone,
the maintenance-patch is now available for vdr-1.3.38 / 1.3.39, for details see below.
For those of you interested, you can download the patch from: http://joachim-wilke.de/vdr-patches.htm
Joachim.
I have created a "maintenance-patch", which does daily housekeeping-tasks at a predefined time. This tasks are:
automatic calling of noad for new recordings
cut all recordings, marked as ready before
Till now, pressing '2' in a recording starts the cutting immediately. Now, you have the possibility to press '3' and mark this recording as "ready for cutting". Cutting is then done during the next maintainance run. Pressing '3' again removes the ready mark. You can see the current status of a recording in the Recordings overview. Recordings marked for cutting are indicated with a "+"-sign.
In the Settings-Menu you can setup the different features in the new "Maintainance"-submenu.

Just some remarks:
- "Maintenance" is not a very good name for this. What does it "maintain"? It's rather a "Batch cutting" mechanism.
- The '3' key during replay may one day be used for "single frame forward" move (with '1' being "single frame backwards).
- With all the setup options you're introducing, and the interconnection to "noad", don't you think that this would be better done in a plugin?

Yes, you're right. Some time ago, there were more functions integrated than just noad and cutting at night. But theses were no longer needed with newer vdr version / plugins, so I removed them. I was just to lazy to rename the patch till now.

I have already thought about this. For now, i do not have enough time for this and so just adapted the already existing patch.
Thanks for your comments, Joachim.
First of all: I like this patch very much: it has nice features and is very stable.

--> it shouldn't be difficult to change to another key if "3" is used by VDR itself.

--> What I like very much in this patch is the fact, that you can set the "ready for cutting" status directly in the recordings menu. Is this also be possible if this would be implemented as a plugin?

Don't want to complain, but... Calling noad at a certain time could be done with a cron job, also managing a noad queue could be done externally with some scripting. Controlling could be done with recording commands. The only obstacle left is the actual cut. There are patches that allow external triggering of cutting, and I guess there are also external command line tools for cutting somewhere...
Cheers,
Udo

Or simply use the SVDRP command EDIT ;-)

You are right this is also possible with some external scripts. I did this before this patch was available. Nevertheless I dont' like this scripting because it is (in my opinion) much more error-prone. Besides of this I like it very much that I can do everything mit my remote control directly in VDR. If you think of VDR as a livingroom STB you would would agreen that a "normal" STB-User would not set up scripts and CRON-jobs. Think of th WAF! Let's keep things simple! ;-)
