Hello,
I have a vdr system with 3 cards, all conected to a diseqc 1.0 which have a connection to 3 lnb on 3 sat (I have 3 quad lnb).

Which often works, but not always...
Is there some other option I could use ?
In case VDR can't tune to a channel, does it resend the diseqc commands ?
Thank you very much,

Yes, it does,
Thank.
Tonight, I try to tune to one of my favorite radio station :

And I got :

Tuning back to Astra (for example DMAX : DMAX;T-Systems:12633:hC56:S19.2E:22000:203:303=deu:503:0:12602:1:1113:0 ) tune directly.
And then back to Espace 2 again :

In fact it only tune to channels on Astra 19.2E but no Hotbird 13.0E neither Astra 28.2E.
I stop vdr and restart :
Jan 26 19:09:49 ar vdr: [15712] frontend 0 timed out while tuning to channel 254, tp 112399
Then I quit VDR and reload the driver : it then tune without any problem, directly.
Is there a way to achieve this without reloading the driver ?
In case more info are needed on my setup : http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2007-January/015463.html
Thank you very much,

I think, your diseqc.conf should look like that:
# Optimized for full DiSEqC:
S19.2E 11700 V 9750 [E0 10 38 F0] S19.2E 99999 V 10600 [E0 10 38 F1] S19.2E 11700 H 9750 [E0 10 38 F2] S19.2E 99999 H 10600 [E0 10 38 F3]

As far as I recall, selecting among more than 8 LNB connections requires the use of full DiSEqC, as only 8 LNB connections can be addressed by supply voltage (vV), 22 kHz tone (tT) and tone bursting (AB) (pre DiSEqC 1.0).
In your diseqc.conf, you mix pre DiSEqC 1.0 with DiSEqC 1.0 in a similar way as provided in the stock diseqc.conf below '# Full DiSEqC sequence:'. This should not be a problem in general as the standard says, that the switch should prefer a properly received full DiSEqC message over mini DiSEqC signalling but it may interfere if there is a transmission error in the full DiSEqC message.
Moreover some switches seem to store the decision whether a client uses mini or full DiSEqC until the switch port sees a power cycle. This might explain why reloading the driver cures the problem.
Bye.

I have also no problem under kaffeine :-)

I don't know if that exactly similar :
Astra 19.2E Hotbird 13.0E Astra 28.2E quad lnb quad lnb quad lnb 4 cables 4 cables 4 cables \\ |||| //// \\ |||| //// \\ |||| //// \\ vnc G3 G3 //// diseqc 1.0 3 output / | \ / | \ / | \ / | \ dvb1 dvb2 dvb3
I have tried it, and it don't work at my place ??? Well, I can tune to some channels : Vertical loband on Astra 19.2E Vertical loband on Hotbird 13.0E, Vertical ones on Astra 28.2E.
Thank for your answer, I would like to convert the setup from kaffeine into vdr's diseqc.conf : DVB0=S|Astra-19.2E|Hotbird-13.0E|Astra-28.2E DVB0_LNB0_hi=10600 DVB0_LNB0_lo=9750 DVB0_LNB0_switch=11700 DVB0_LNB1_hi=10600 DVB0_LNB1_lo=9750 DVB0_LNB1_switch=11700 DVB0_LNB2_hi=10600 DVB0_LNB2_lo=9750 DVB0_LNB2_switch=11700 DVB0_LNB3_hi=10600 DVB0_LNB3_lo=9750 DVB0_LNB3_switch=11700
Which is the same for DVB1 and DVB2.
I would really enjoy if someone could explain me how to use the same settings as kaffeine use :-)
Have a great day,

Well, concerning the cables, my setup just misses the right 4 ones for the 28.2E LNB.
Do you really have QUAD LNBs? I have QUATTRO LNBs.
The difference is, that a QUATTRO LNB supplies the 4 bands (Horizontal Low, Vertical Low, Horizontal High and Vertical High) on specific ports on its own, while a QUAD LNB needs voltage and tone signalling on each port to decide which band it supplies to that port.
Would you mind providing some links to documentation about your LNB and switch models?
Maybe it has to do with the QUAD - QUATTRO issue, but let me first have a look into your documentation.
Hhm, these settings only help in determining high/low band and the frequency to tune to. I first need to take a look into the code how kaffeine and xine-lib pass the information about the port to use to the DVB driver.
Bye.

Well, it's pretty small docs... basically my quad lnb are exactly the same as four lnb would be.

I must admit, I didn't think of such a scenario. So for now, I think your diseqc.conf is correct. Your switch seems to use the DiSEqC message to select one of three LNBs while voltage and tone tell the LNB which of the 4 bands it shall pass on to the cable.
To just prove my understanding: Your VDR is able to switch to all three satelites, but from time to time you get those tuning timeouts. Reloading the drivers fixes this issue and VDR can then switch to all three satellites again.
Haven't had a look at this yet.
Bye.

I do not see how the ports could interfere with each other. Your switch provides 4 independent 1-of-3 switches and each of your 3 LNBs provides 4 independent 1-of-4 switches.
I've had a look at the source code today. kaffeine "uses" a VDR diseqc.conf like this one:

I also had a closer look into the specification and into the implementation guide. There is only one mandatory command for DiSEqC 1.0: the above used 0x38.

Hello :-)
Well, under kaffeine it's so, but with VDR not...
It's one of my try, but it don't work sowell here. So I guess it's not totally what kaffeine does.
I don't understand the difference betweem a diseqc and a multiswitch.
I think I will go off VDR and look how to use mastetimer similar tool under it, it's way too hard to setup diseqc under vdr.
Thank for all your help, unfortunately, I give up...
Well, good to know :-)

I'm sorry, this IS what the code does:
kaffeine-0.8.3/kaffeine/src/input/dvb/dvbstream.cpp
Just have a look at these functions:
DvbStream::tuneDvb() DvbStream::setupSwitch() DvbStream::diseqc()
I don't understand the difference betweem a diseqc and a multiswitch.
I don't think that there is any difference concerning switching. The only difference I can think of is, that DiSEqC 1.0 allows you to select a port/band among 16 while the "old" signalling supports only 8 ports/bands.

Hi Grégoire There is a Diseqc command to reset (all) LNBs :
[E0 00 00]
maybe it could send in some cases.

I also have problems with 4 quad LNBs on a diseqc switch (1.0 and another 2.0) If I plug out the cable from the card and plug it back again (reset switch and LNBs) I can use szap to change the channels. I believe the quad LNBs have diseqc switch inside and at reset they are in backward compatible mode (Tone/Voltage). In Diseqc specifications/recommendations they recommend the diseqc LNB should ignore responding to Tone/Voltage commands when they receive one diseqc command. Unfortunately, I did not find the proper diseqc commands for the LNBs.
I will try today a workaround to reset the LNB before sending the diseqc.conf sequence in backward compatible mode: - switch to another LNB (hope the power will be cut for the one I need for the channel) - do the sequence for current channel t v [E0 10 38 FF] W500 (switch to LNB4 and wait 500) [E0 10 38 F0] W100 A W15 t (switch to LNB1, wait for power to stabilize, use back compatible)
If I am lucky enough the switch will cut the power for the LNB1 when I switch to LNB4.
Does anybody knows the Diseqc commands for Quad LNBs??
Thanks, Ilariu

I have tried an hudge number of setup, including diseqc reset, resent of messages...
Maybe there is only two VDR user with quad lnb in the world using diseqc ?
I'm using VDR4You distribution, and I don't want to install kaffeine on it. I want to keep it small ;)
I need to check if vdr is sending something that is not suposed to. Note that vdr works for channels on LNB1 if you disable diseqc in the setup.

They are in the order of ports on switch. A non proved explanation is that the LNB needs 100ms to powerup until it can work.

which is pretty close to yours, it works well for ONE card, but for example if I start to reccord SSR-Espace 2;Radio Suisse Romande:12382:hC34:S19.2E:27500:0:218:0:0:928:318:8500:0
I then can only tune to Hotbird... if I stop the reccording, no change, still only Hotbird.
Thank for your email, and happy VDR :-)
I recently obtained a EMP-Centauri S170-CP-16 switch that does 16in by 16out. I attached the two LNC of each LNB to the switch. So the way it should work according the docs is:
LNC 1-4 are Diseqc port 0 LNC 5-8 are Diseqc port 1 LNC 9-12 are Diseqc port 2 LNC 12-16 are Diseqc port 3
The switch automatically sends 13v and 18v alternating on the LNC to the LNBs. Finally I need to use Tone to switch between the two LNBs on any Diseqc port.
LNB 1 - Diseqc 0 and no tone LNB 2 - Diseqc 0 and 22mhz tone LNB 3 - Diseqc 1 and no tone LNB 4 - Diseqc 1 and 22mhz tone LNB 5 - Diseqc 2 and no tone LNB 6 - Diseqc 2 and 22mhz tone LNB 7 - Diseqc 3 and no tone LNB 8 - Diseqc 3 and 22mhz tone
I use 5 legacy circular LNB and one Universal linear LNB. I tried many variations of diseqc.conf without luck. Did anyone have any luck getting VDR to control such a switch? Or can someone suggest a syntax for the Diseqc commands
Thanks

Hello,
of course there is NO problem with vdr diseqc commands, see my posting with title "THANK YOU Reinhard Nissl (diseqc)" for more info.
Thank and have a good day,
