SourceCaps patch for VDR 1.3.32.

The attached patch allows a VDR system with multiple cards to attach each card to an individual dish pointing at a different satellite. I have 3 DVB cards in my VDR system: 1) FF card connected to one output of LNB at a dish pointed at Astra 19.2E. 2) budget card connected to another output of LNB at a dish pointed at Astra 19.2E. 3) budget card connected to output of LNB at a dish pointed at Eutelsat 13.0E. I am using the following entries for that in my setup.conf: SourceCaps = 1 S19.2E SourceCaps = 2 S19.2E SourceCaps = 3 S13.0E

Updated suspend patch for vdr 1.3.32

Based on some helpful feedback from Klaus, I simplified my suspend patch. The interface to the solid-state relay will be moved to a separate plugin. There are so many ways to control relays from a PC that it is best to write plugins for relay interfaces as the need arises. The patch introduces three config.h variables, which are 0 by default, and exposed in the Setup/Miscellanous panel: PowerSuspend: 1=enable the Power button control the Suspend flag, 0=normal Suspend: 1=suspend audio and video playback, 0=normal SuspendShutdownWait: After playback was suspended by pressing the Power button, wait this many seconds until shutting down vdr. This feature is disabled if SuspendShutdownWait=0 or PowerSuspend=0 or no -s option is given to vdr. The patch is available at: http://www.funet.fi/~msmakela/software/vdr/vdr-1.3.32-suspend-0.3.patch.gz When compiling, be sure to pass SUSPEND_PATCH=1 to make. The page http://www.funet.fi/~msmakela/software/vdr/ currently documents the previous version of the patch. I will write a relay-control plugin and rewrite my "runvdr" script at some later time. On my system (900 MHz Celeron, 256 MB, vdr, softdevice, DirectFB on Matrox G450), suspending playback cuts the power consumption by 15 to 20 VA, about 20 % of the apparent power consumed when one hard disk is spinning. The power consumption would probably drop more on processors equipped with frequency scaling and thermal throttling. I plan to repeat the measurements with a better instrument that displays actual power consumption in watts instead of apparent power (volt-amps). Marko

Softdevice or Xine?

Hi, We've been happily using VDR with a video projector for almost a year now without any problems. The projector gets a s-video signal from VDR using one of those "add-on" cards that plug into the J2 connector. S-video gives an ok but kinda blurry image. The card seems to be able to provide some kind of component signal too as it has an additional SCART-connector as a separate module, but we've never figured out how to get that one connected and as we've already burnt the J2 of one DVB card, we're a bit careful with anything connected to the J2 connector. So, as s-video seems to be the best we can get out from the DVB cards we've looked at getting the image out using the normal video output of the system. The projector has an input for DVI/HDMI/VGA and the VDR system has DVI/VGA out, so it seems like that would be the best way to go to get a good image out, preferably avoiding any analog conversions along the way. There seems to be two solutions that are currently used: Softdevice http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Softdevice-plugin Xine-plugin http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Xine-plugin Those seem to be the best homepages for the plugins, but as I'm no native German speaker (I can order a beer, but that's about it) I have a fairly hard time grokking the finer details of pros and cons. What do you others use when you want to get a good image from VDR? Which of those plugins is the preferable solution in this case? The system in use should cope just fine with some decoding done by the CPU. The system has a Sempron-something 2400+ and an ATI fanless 9250 card (I think it was). Cleanup Thread (like .update)

Hi Klaus, Is there a possibility to implement the same way .update works a way to start the cleanup thread which is deleting the deleted recordings ? I'm usually low an diskspace and when try to free space for new recordings it takes mostly more than 5 minutes of an idle VDR to delete the recordings on the system. Sometimes 5 Minutes is too long :). Is this harcoded anywhere in the code ? Than it would be enough for me to shorten this amount of time. /hgm.bg

Wanted: Filesize of recordings available in skins

Hello @all, when showing the details of a recording, i'd like to know how much diskspace in MB is needed on my HD (e.g. sum of .vdr files). This size in MB is very useful when archiving some recordings on dvd or copying the data to another limited storage place. My questions to Klaus and Sascha or others that can be of help: 1. Is this size information already available for a plugin ? If not, i would highly welcome that this size information can be accessed from a plugin. 2. Because i used the text2skin plugin this size information has to be implemented into the text2skin plugin. Due this plugin has been not changed in the last months i'd like to know if the development is going on in the next time and if such a new feature can be implemented. Best regards, Christoph

VDSB with Kernel 2.6.13

Hi, I got something I desperately need help with: I have got one FF card plus 3 Nova CI Budget Cards, usually using the latest driver, firmware and VDR versions. After having upgraded to Kernel 2.6.13, I get the dreaded "Video Data Stream Broken" error as soon as a recording starts. Vanilla VDR 1.3.32 (no plugins besides remote) with "WAIT_FOR_TUNER_LOCK" reports "no dvb card available for recording" instead: Sep 20 17:40:44 [vdr] timer 5 (1 1740-2040 '@TITLE EPISODE') start Sep 20 17:40:44 [vdr] record /video0/(a)Brisant_Boulevardmagazin/2005-09-20.17.40.10.01.rec Sep 20 17:40:49 [vdr] ERROR: device 2 has no lock, can't attach receiver! Sep 20 17:40:49 [vdr] ERROR: Keine freie DVB-Karte zum Aufnehmen! The log reports 4 video devices found. When switching back to 2.6.12 everything works fine again (same driver, same firmware)...no problem recording from 4 different transponders... Of course I also tried the latest (yesterday's) CVS driver and the latest Firmware (fb2620). >From looking at dmesg I can tell the cards' IRQ assignments have changed, but still each card uses its own one. Also, they still share their IRQs with the very same other PCI devices. szap seems to be able to tune, though, as it reports FE_HAS_LOCK on all 4 cards when tuning to "Das Erste". Any hints on how to debug this further? Thanks, Stephan

Feature request - 1.5x playback with sound

I've once asked about this from Klaus and he did not see this feasible at that time. If I remember correctly he thought that this would be something that should be done in the device itself. Well I was just watching a DVD with PowerDVD windows player and it has the ability to play back with 1.5x and 2.0x speeds with sound. Without changing the pitch. And that has to be done with software since I have no kind of hardware to do that. I know that mplayer can play with many speeds with sound but the pitch changes also. So I am not sure in which direction this feature request should be aimed at :) Originally I had this idea from my JVC hd recorder which has 1.5x playback possibility. Sometimes there are programs that you just wand to speed up a little :D Oh, and ofcourse subtitling should work also as it does with PowerDVD. BR Kartsa No virus found in this outgoing message. Radio channels in VDR

Hi, there are some points that I don´t like with the current implementation of radio channels: 1) I have sorted my channel list lately and have put the new German radio channels (BR, HR, WDR etc.) at the beginning of the channels.conf. But after an EPG scan, I got all those channels again and the end of the channels.conf, so that I have all of them twice. Unfortunately, I don´t have access to my channels.conf now so that I can´t post parts of it, but if somebody else has this problem, this seems to be a VDR bug as long as Astra does not send those channels twice. 2) I was told (if I understood correctly) that because radio channels don´t transmit video data, the index.vdr contains an I frame for every audio packet. This has 2 disadvantages: 1. The time is displayed wrong, and 2. starting a radio recording takes very long (around 10 seconds without any reaction of VDR?) on a 90 minutes recording from "WDR Mehrkanaltest" until I hear anything, maybe because it takes so long to read the index.vdr? The advantage seems to be that I can cut radio at every single frame, but as I am also not able to this with TV and need external tools for this (I use Cuttermaran for Win), I would rather prefer exact time information and a faster start of playback and use external tools if I want it exact (e.g. for archiving it on DVD). Frame exact cut for TV and radio could then become a goal for VDR 1.5.x. 3) A separate main menu entry for radio channels. With kind regards Joerg
