[ANNOUNCE] VDR maintenance patch 1.4.3-3

VDR maintenance patch 1.4.3-3 is now available at ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.4.3-3.diff This is a 'diff' against version 1.4.3-2 (which is the official version 1.4.3, patched with ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.4.3-1.diff and ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.4.3-2.diff). Small fixes to the officially released VDR versions will be first made available as "maintenance patches" in the Developer directory, so that they can be reviewed and tested before a new official release is published. So please apply the above patch and report whether it works (or if it causes any new problems). This version requires plugins to be recompiled. The changes since version 1.4.3-2: - Fixed setting audio track descriptions after a replay has been stopped (reported by Ulf Kiener, thanks to Marco Schlüßler for pointing out what caused the problem). xinelibout Overscan doesn't work with local frontend

Seems that when runnin xinelibout with local frontend Overscan crop doesn't work. If I run remote frontend vdr-sxfe it crops just right. I'm running vdr-1.4.3-2 and xineliboutput-1.0.0pre6 -P"xineliboutput --local=sxfe --video=xv --remote=37890" -- Jussi

I've mentioned this on the list for years and NO-ONE seems to want to address the problem. Surely Klaus and Werner can have a dialogue and look to getting the problem fixed? I'm happy to isolate a short clip of video where the sync goes out so that someone can look at it? Plugging mplayer into VDR to fix it is a fudge and shouldn't be necessary, if mplayer works OK with the recordings then surely we can get VDR to do so too? This happens extremely regularly for me in the UK, both on DVB-T and sometimes even on DVB-S. I have a fully featured Technotrend DVB-S card and a budget DVB-T card. I mostly see it on recordings, but also recently on live TV.. :-( Changing channels or ff/rew by 1 minute fixes the problem, but it is really frustrating. Klaus / Werner, there are a LOT of people out there with this problem, please can we all work together to get this fixed once and for all, then VDR will really be perfect... Let's not let this go AGAIN.. :-\ Anything I can do to help, count me in. Regards, Morfsta

vdr 1.4.1 can't play old recordings???

Hi, I've been upgrading to 1.4.1 last May, then rebuilt my VDR lately. It seems it can't playback older recordings (pre-1.4.1) any more. The sound is stuttering heavily, and it looks as if audio were entirely out of sync. The whole setup is identical to the old one (cause for the rebuild was a dying root disk). Audio is AC3 and PCM over ALSA via softdevice. Is that a known problem? What am I missing? TIA! -- E Pluribus Unix

Hi list, I've released the first release of my runvdr-extreme package. runvdr extreme is a runvdr script, just like the runvdr script included in the VDR distribution. Additionally, it supports configuration files, lots of command line options and additional features. -> http://www.richter-udo.de/vdr/scripts.en.html - Loads default configuration from runvdr.conf - All configuration accessible and overrideable from command line - All VDR options handled - Handles runvdr.pid file, acts on signals - Restarts VDR in case of errors - Commands to restart VDR and reload DVB - Configuration file re-read on VDR restart - Avoids endless loops if VDR crashes instantly - Resets terminal to defaults after VDR terminated - Add wrapper commands to VDR for debugging - Waiting for the VDR process to be killed completey, hard killing after timeout - Command line help - Can switch console terminal - Can set locale for VDR daemon - Optionally supports pluginsetup-plugin All in all, if you're still messing with the original runvdr script, you may want to thy this boosted version. FF card substitute - Budget and PVR 350?

I note that Hauppauge no longer list the Nexus DVB-S FF card and was wondering if anyone has succeeded in using the PVR 350, which has a hardware MPEG2 decoder and OSD, in conjuction with a budget DVB-S card. What I am looking for is the full functionality of VDR, for display on a television set via the video output on the PVR 350 - no VGA card outputs. If this is not yet possible, which pieces of the puzzle are still missing? Regards, Richard

It uses the hardware mpeg2 decoder on the PVR350 (ivtv driver). The plugin is out of development, but I managed to do some changes to get it work with new ivtv drivers. I also found a way to improve the channel switching duration from 4-5 sec to 2-3 seconds. Have a look at http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=55637 I use it in combination with a DVB-T card and think it works better than a dxr3. Unfortunately, the DVD-plugin does not work.

xineliboutput Version 1.0.0pre6

- Fixed unscaled OSD scaling to display size when low-resolution video or different aspect ratio unfortunatly it seems it's not fixed here. and i am still having big sound/video glitches/issues when zapping. i'm using xine-lib 1.1.2 and xine-ui 0.99.4+cvs20060813-1 and tcp it's reproducible on ITV1 (S28.2E) hm and transparency doesn't work on this channel with vdr-sxfe. Sorry if i'm not giving a enough informations, What should i do ? - revert libxine to 1.1.1 ? - patch libxine 1.1.2 with some patches ? - revert xineliboutput plugin to something older ? - move back to vdr-xine + network patch ? what's the best setup atm ? --

df_xine OSD

When using df_xine with Matrox CRTC2 the OSD is often too wide and a significant portion is missing from the RHS. Is there any way to correct it? I can't tell what makes it intermittent, it doesn't seem to depend on whether the programme is widescreen. NB my TV is widescreen and as df_xine doesn't seem to have an option for output aspect ratio I just use "-a 5:4" so whatever I'm watching fills the screen and I switch the TV from 16:9 to 4:3 mode as necessary. -- TH * http://www.realh.co.uk

Problem with audio sync in playback

This problem is yet to be fixed to my understanding. Now I have a good recording (one episode from Lost) where this happens very often. The problem seems to be related to situations where the scene fades black before new scene. There is something strange in those situations.. If someone has the knowledge/talent to start debugging the problem I can put the recording available for downloading. Br, Pasi
