But if VDR was public with concepts and source before 2001-01-18 then Intel could not patent the things what were already published by VDR community. In other words, the patent office did a bad job when making search of things prohibiting the patent (normally just browsing other patents of the same area, not VDR/DVB-mailing list snoop). And above applies to tivo/replay-tv/m$ and other companies. You cannot patent already publicly known stuff. Hi, I've just uploaded the new av7110 firmware version 261f to http://linuxtv.org/downloads/firmware/. This is similar (if not identical) to the latest greatest of the many 261e versions floating through the net, but I decided to bumb the version number to avoid confusion. A summary of the changes is also available under the above link, for me the highlights are better error handling and smoother a/v sync. All this work was done by Werner Fink -- a big thank you to him! Johannes

vdr with nexus-s rev 2.1 crashes with ttxtsubs and osdteletext when zapping

Hello! When I switch from an encrypted channel from my DVB-S (Nexus-S rev. 2.1) to DVB-T Airstar2 vdr crashes almost every time but if I go from a free to air channel it is no problem. If vdr does not crash it goes to the first channel in channel.conf. The channel I choose shows up and freezes for a short while (less than a second) after about a second and then it goes on for another 10 seconds as it should and then it dies or goes to the first channel. softcam 0: switched to FTA softcam 0: setting new SID 1090, source c000, transponder 1da DVB-T to DVB-S always works. There is no problem with this if I use vdr-xine plugin instead. NO other changes. I tried to remove plugins and saw that if I removed osdteletext and ttxtsubs the problem is gone. My family needs subtitle for moviechannels and animal planet, discovey. I really want to use my FF card instead of using softdevice because it is easier for me to use the computer while the other watch tv. I am almost ready to give up and I have tried vdr 1.3.18-27 and 3 different hotplug firmwares under gentoo linux and kernel 2.6.10-12. Today I learned a new thing and if I start a recording on an encrypted DVB-S channel before switching to a DVB-T channel it worked. :) Both osdteletext and ttxtsubs uses teletext PID in some way I supose. Is this the problem together with FF card? Please help!! /Magnus

Splash on FF card?

Hi, A splashscreen on the FF card during boot (well, as early as possible) would be nice... just so that the screen doesn't stay dark. How could that be done? -- Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. -- Euripides

SuSE Linux 9.3, vdr-1.3.27 and remote-0.3.3

My upgrade from SL9.0 and vdr-1.3.15 to SL9.3 and vdr-1.3.27 required another change. The remote plugin now wants to talk to /dev/input/event3 instead of event0. Well, yes. But anyway, here's a working RC5 keymap file for a Medion "I was ordered by cooper" 4689 remote control. I'm using code 098 for AUX. Everything except some of the lower two rows keys works fine. The keys don't seem to emit any codes. The trick concerning "dvb_ttpci av7110_ir_debug=1" doesn't work with this DVB driver version (2.6.11.4-21.7-default). medion-088 and medion-155 don't work for me at all, just some keys, some mixed up, a mess. The others work even worse. Hi, just upgraded my VDR from SL9.0 and vdr-1.3.15 to SL9.3 and vdr-1.3.27, the main reason being the recent DVD plugin which requires at least 1.3.18. AC3 5.1 sound from DVD is the motivation (AC3overDVB thanks to Werner's firmware patches). Works fine. But the rest is sorta unstable. Vdr keeps crashing every other 15 seconds, but not always. Sometines it runs stably for hours. lcdproc-0.0.10 keeps crashing vdr-1.3.27 consistently, nothing usable in the logs with "-l 3". I reported the SIGINT issue already. The best thing so far is this combo doesn't run well with the 128MB the machine has right now. Vdr will start, then the box runs immediately out of memory, vdr crashes, etc. I had to activate swap. Guess I'll get another 128 megs. vdr-1.3.27 now says "ERROR: unknown config parameter:" to the following parms - did so much change? vdr-1.3.27 still gives me SIGINTs

Hi, my living room vdr still gives me the goose bumps as far as SIGINTs from an unknown source (I posted that before... no clue who is the bad guy). Anyway, this patch keeps vdr from accepting SIGINTs from UID != 0. Ctrl-C as root still works. (And BTW signal() is deprecated, and the man page says about signal(2) Trying to change the semantics of this call using defines and includes is not a good idea. It is better to avoid signal altogether, and use sigaction(2) instead.
